As a native Californian, I am concerned with the development and destruction of our coastal community with a focus on conservation within construction, and the use of alternative materials to reduce energy consumption. My series "Parcel B/Can't Be Contained" imagines a painterly abstraction of recycled shipping containers as alternative affordable housing.
I add unforeseen color to
buildings to change my perception of a masculine design. When I paint chairs or
furniture they represent the feminine, a comfortable space to rest your eye. These architectural elements, lines and
dimensions are visual eye candy for me. How does a room make you feel? How does
a color make you feel? It circulates around emotion. My work feels complete when a balance of loose paint application
and calming, reinforcing lines and structures create a synergy that is contrasting
but also harmonious.
